Day 2: Early Morning Wake-up Call

Today started off very early with the Health Risk Assessment at the Life Center. It was fairly quick; the nurses measured our blood pressure, waists, and took blood samples. Needles rarely bother me unless I look at them but seeing my own blood in a test tube is still a little odd. When I came back to the Medical School there were doughnuts for our tier which was really nice surprise. :)

Our Tier was then split into two groups; alternating doing the BLS/CPR certification and Debate research in the morning and afternoon. Most of the BLS/CPR certification was fairly repetitive for me as I usually receive the same training for lifeguarding but the instructor made it interesting and it was good time to get to know some of the other students in the group. Listening to the short talk on Strokes was very interesting as well. My family has a history of heart disease as well as strokes and taking the information back home to my parents actually prompted my dad to schedule a check-up with his doctor. The afternoon was very relaxed doing research for the "Great Debate" happening at the end of the month. Public speaking is definitely not my forte but thinking about Mrs. Zimmerman's presentation I think that its something I can definitely improve with practice. Hopefully I will be able to do my part for my team when the debate happens!

I also had a chance to eat outside with some of the other MedEx students. Sometimes I wish we could spend more time outside but we're learning so much I forget how nice the weather is.
