Its a Good Week to Have a Great Week

Monday morning comes and its that time of the year again!  Three years in and it feels as if MedEx will always be there, each summer to go to but now there are only two tiers left to complete and this is day of Tier III.  Even though I always want to start by jumping back into the thick of the program the first day is always filled with plenty of ice breakers; plenty of new people too.  As always, Mr. Al Squire came after our interns, Sarah and Henry, introduced themselves to give his motivational speech for the summer.  Following him, however, was Mrs. Jen Parker who gave a philanthropy speech.  I feel as if this year we were given more information on how much money it takes the program to run and since $300,000 isn't something to sneeze at I've certainly come to appreciate the hardworking a little more and what we get from MedEx.

After lunch we were able to tour the various rooms of the medical building; we even got to see the anatomy lab! One day I'll get to dissect, just not today... but I seeing the large auditorium and the shiny bells and whistles around the school really get me excited to study medicine, soon. Following the tour Hope had given us of the school were given our first introduction to the Bibliotherapy program from Mrs. Kristen Lawson who works closely with Dr. Sherill in the "A Does of Prose" program (sadly based at Celmson... go Cocks). Since this is our clinical experience this summer Im always excited to see how different areas of medicine work but at the same time nervous; geriatric patients don't scare me but there's always a small bit of fear in me I'll mess up. I did get excited to see though that our reading book has Johnny Cash lyrics in it though! We'll see if the patients are just as much of a fan as I am.

At the very end of the day we were placed into our Ethics Research group.  Fingers crossed to see how exciting we can make the Belmont Report seem!  Time for this Kaplan diagnostic...
